We are a small but dedicated team of designers, editors, and art lovers. From our studio in the heart of Seattle, we bring creative projects to life for arts institutions of all kinds.
Gina Broze is a knowledgeable arts professional with over 20 years of experience in rights & reproductions, museums, publishing, photo and copyright research, project management, and customer service. She recently combined her business Smart Rights, which focuses on image licensing and rights clearance, with Marquand Books and pre-press and printing company I/O Color. Together they develop, design, produce, and help distribute books with museums, artists, creative professionals, publishers, and collectors.
Melissa oversees our editorial department and provides developmental and copyediting services and early manuscript assessment for our projects. With graduate degrees in Art History and in Decorative Arts and Design History, she worked in museums as both a curator and a catalogue editor before joining MB in 2013. When not checking for inconsistencies in footnotes, Melissa enjoys collecting Regency-era teaspoons and staying out of the sun.
Tom collaborates with clients to develop the look and feel of books from concept to object. Drawing on more than 15 years’ experience in design and publishing, along with a diverse range of interests, he finds creative solutions that help elevate projects to become something special. He was previously Senior Designer at the University of Washington Press for almost a decade and is an alumni of that same school’s rigorous Visual Communication Design program. He was born in Seattle to Dutch parents and was raised in Port Angeles, Washington, where the mountains greet the sea.
Leah oversees Marquand Books’ book production by managing prepress, printing, and delivery schedules; maintaining operations with our prepress house; and collaborating with printers around the world to ensure the highest quality in materials and production for our publications. She came to MB in 2011 with over 20 years’ experience in both printing and book production. When she’s not reading you can find her either swimming, biking, or running along the beach.
Jeremy takes care of the nuts-and-bolts digital work required to produce our books and ensures that the designers’ ideas translate properly onto paper. He also designs the in-book maps for titles that include them. He has over 25 years of production and design experience, and loves photography, DJing, and his three cats.
Ryan works closely with curators, authors, and artists to realize a collaborative vision for every publication. He holds degrees in photography and graphic design, and has long been obsessed with typography and print in all its forms. Ryan joined MB in 2011 as a design and production assistant and image manager, and became design director in 2016. In rare moments of downtime, he prints with a century-old cast iron letterpress in his backyard studio.
Olivia works with the editorial department to shepherd books from manuscript to the printed page. With a BA in English and a minor in comics studies, she worked for a few years in academic publishing before heading to the Pacific Northwest and joining Marquand Books in 2024. When she isn’t taking her cat, Milo, for a walk, she enjoys baking, hiking, and promoting native bee protection.
Kestrel manages our project schedules and guides books through the editorial process. She also coordinates our co-publication and distribution efforts. A lifelong book lover, Kestrel’s first job ever was in a library. She went on to earn a degree in English literature and a certificate in editing and worked as a bookseller before joining the MB team in 2014. When she isn’t consumed with reading, Kestrel can usually be found in her garden.
Sandy is responsible for all aspects of office administration and bookkeeping, supporting the staff so they can stay focused on working with our clients. She has 20 years of fiscal, HR, and administrative support experience across law firms, a local employment agency, and the Burke Museum. A lover of books and art, her first full time job was as a bookseller and buyer at Tower Books. In her free time, she is an avid collector of textiles, vintage rugs, and tiny artworks by local artists.
Donna has worked directly with MB’s client-publishers since 2008, providing comprehensive project evaluation, consultation, and development. For twenty years, she has worked with artists, museums, private collections, authors, publishers, and other institutions, specializing in editorial and creative direction, and production and distribution support for a wide range of fine art publications. Donna is also the publisher and editor of two independent imprints, Foggy Notion Books and S/W Ediciones. She holds MA and MFA degrees in Italian Literature and Photography and a BA in Comparative Literature. Since 2000, she has lived and worked in Manhattan’s East Village.
